How to Resize an Image Without Distortion in 3 Steps
Resizing an image seems simple but can distort the product or crop important parts. Learn how to do it right for each platform.
Why resizing distorts images
When you change the width without changing the height (or vice versa), the image is stretched. To avoid this, always resize while maintaining the original aspect ratio or crop before resizing.
3 steps to resize without distortion
- Step 1: Define the target size (e.g., 1024×1024 for Shopee).
- Step 2: Enable the 'Keep aspect ratio' option in the tool.
- Step 3: If the original aspect ratio differs, crop before resizing.
Most used sizes by platform
- Shopee: 1024×1024 px (square).
- Mercado Livre: 1200×1200 px (square).
- Instagram post: 1080×1080 px (square).
- Instagram Stories / Reels: 1080×1920 px (9:16).
- YouTube thumbnail: 1280×720 px (16:9).
- TikTok thumbnail: 1080×1920 px (9:16).
Practical tip: When resizing a rectangular product to square, add white padding on the sides instead of cropping the product. This preserves the whole product and still fits the square format.
